"FROM PRINCIPAL'S DESK:
The Maharaja Bodhchandra College, popularly known as M.B. College, was established on September 8, 1969 and is situated in the heart of the Imphal city near the Govindaji Temple in a 5.03 acres of land. The land was gifted by the then Maharaja of Manipur, Shri Okendrajit Singh, in his revered father’s name, His Highness Shri Maharaja Bodhchandrajee Singh (Leishemba). The College is co-educational and is continuing to impart quality education to students till now. It was affiliated to the Guwahati University before the Manipur University was established. Now, it is affiliated to Manipur University (now a Central University). Earlier it had classes from Class XI to full Degree Course, but now the higher secondary section has been delinked by the State Government and it is imparting education to only Degree courses in both Honours and General Streams.
There are 9 (nine) arts subjects namely, English, Manipuri, Political Science, Education, Economics, History, Geography, Mathematics and Philosophy.
At present the total strength of the teaching and non-teaching staffs of the college is 48. There are 26 regular faculty members, 10 part-time lecturers and one guest lecturer, and 11 non-teaching staff.
M.B. College was accreditated with “B” Grade by NAAC in the year 2012. The College has been re-accredeted in 2019.

HISTORY OF
MBC:
Maharaja Bodhchandra Singhjee (Leishemba) (1908–1955) is considered to be the 76th and the last king of sovereign Manipur. As a young prince, he received education from Mayo College, Ajmer. He succeeded his father, Maharaja Churachand Singh, as the king of Manipur. His coronation took place inside Kangla in the winter of 1944 during the height of the World War II. He ruled Manipur for more than 11 (eleven) years.
Three historical events marked the rule of the religious and peaceful king.
- First, the promulgation of the first democratic constitution of Manipur in July 1947, commonly known as the Manipur Constitution of 1947.
- Second, holding of the first ever democratic election (universal adult franchise) under provisions of the Constitution of 1947 in August 1948 to elect the first Manipur State Assembly consisting of 54 elected members.
- The election is regarded to be the first of its kind in the whole of the South Asia.
- The State Assembly was inaugurated by the King, Maharaja Bodhchandra Singh, on October 18, 1948
- Inauguration of the State Assembly marked the historic transition from monarchy to democracy retaining the King as the customary and constitutional head of State
- Third, merger of Manipur to the Union of India.
- Merger Agreement was signed without the approval of his Cabinet or the then elected Assembly of 1948 on September 21, 1949 at the Governor’s House at Shillong
- Manipur got officially merged into India on October 15, 1949 as a Part C State
Thereafter, the Maharaja led a secluded life devoting his time to prayer and religion. He passed away in the year 1955.
The campus was gifted by the then Maharaja of Manipur, Shri Okendrajit Singh, in his revered father’s name, His Highness Shri Maharaja Bodhchandra Singh.

- To make a centre of excellence in education by optimum utilization of available resources
- To impart and spread knowledge through higher education to the learners coming mostly from economically backward families, hills, minorities and others
- To disseminate knowledge by improving quality teaching-learning process through use of multi-media and incorporation of other teaching techniques and through exchange programmes
- To promote multi-disciplinary approaches in teaching-learning process and enhance research among faculty members by upgrading the institution and developing infrastructure
- To instill and enrich sense of responsibility, accountability and ethical values among the students and faculty members towards achieving higher goals in life
- To produce human capital of global competence
