COURSES OFFERED

There are 9 (nine) arts subjects namely, English, Manipuri, Political Science, Education, Economics, History, Geography, Mathematics and Philosophy.

ORDINANCE OF THE BACHELOR OF ARTS (SIX SEMESTER SYSTEM) There shall be a six-semester (three year) course of study leading to the award of Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree. Each semester shall consist of 90 working days.

(A) Eligibility:

i. A student who has passed10+2 examination of Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur, or equivalent examination recognized by Manipur University is eligible for admission to BA course.

ii. A student of Bachelor of Arts shall offer the following subjects: Modern Indian Language (Manipuri) or General English in the 1st and 2nd semesters.

a) Regional Development (Northeast) (in 3rd semester)

b) Environmental Studies (in 4th Semester)

iii. Elective and Honours subjects (Any three of the following):

Provided that no student shall be allowed to opt Mathematics unless he/she has passed the 10+2 (Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary) examinations with Mathematics.

Honours Paper X Honours Paper shall be one of the Electives offered in the previous semesters.

For a subject involving Practical/ Laboratory classes

i. The practical examination will carry at least 30% overall weightage.

ii. for an elective paper of 100 marks comprising of Theory and Practical components, the distribution of marks shall be, generally:

Theory - 75 marks

Practical - 25 marks.

However, for certain subjects. (e.g. Geography), a different distribution may be adopted .

iii) Honours Paper VII in the 5th Semester and Honours Paper X in the 6th Semester may be practical papers.

(C) Details of marks distribution shall be as provided in the respective syllabus.

(c) Eligibility to appear at the End-Semester Examination:

 A student who has studied a regular course of study for a semester in an affiliated or permitted college may be admitted to the end-semester examination provided the student has attended not less than 75 percent of the lectures delivered, including practical’s.

 A student who has enrolled himself/herself in more than one college/ institute simultaneously shall not be admitted into the end semester examinations.

(d) Promotion:

 A student who has passed all the papers of the semester examination will be promoted to the next higher semester.

 A student who has failed in one or two papers in a semester may also be promoted to the next higher semester provided that in no case a student will be promoted to next higher semester if he/she has more than four failed papers at a time.

 Admission into degree and award of certificate: A degree under the seal of the university shall be awarded to a student who has passed all the papers of all the semester examinations.

 Classification and Class and Grade: A student who has passed all the six semesters in regular attempt shall be placed in the class “Honours with Distinction” if he/she secure at least 85% marks in aggregate of all the subjects in all the semesters.

 For the award of class and grade (except the class of “Honours with Distinction”), the marks obtained in the subject of Honours (Honours papers and corresponding elective papers) will be counted. Eg: For a student offering History as the Honours subject, the marks obtained in the Honours (History) Papers and elective (History) Papers shall be counted.

 A student who secures 60% or above marks in the Honours subject (Honours paper and corresponding elective papers) shall be placed in First Class Honours.

 A student who has secured 45% or more marks, but below 60% marks, will be placed in Second Class Honours.

 A student who has passed all the papers but secures less than 45% marks will be placed in “Pass only” class.

 Admission of the unsuccessful and absentee candidates: A student who was admitted into a semester examination, but could not pass/could not be promoted to the next higher semester may be permitted to appear at the next available regular semester examination as a casual student on payment of necessary prescribed fee.

 Notwithstanding anything contained in the above clauses a student must complete the course within a continuous span of ten semesters from his/her initial admission.

VOCATIONAL COURSE:

The College introduced a Vocational Course – 2 Semester 1 year    Diploma Course in “Computer Hardware Technology” with an intake capacity of40Students under RUSA, Vocationalisation of Higher Education. The institute tied up with NIELIT, Akampat, as industrial partner and theoretical as well as practical classes have been going on in full swing.
*Note-Eligibility for Vocational Course- 1st semester and 3rd Semester students only.
